Course Description: Inclusive settings are often considered the best therapeutic setting for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. However, working with individuals in inclusive settings present unique challenges. These challenges and barriers will be discussed as well as potential strategies and solutions from a behavior analytic perspective. How these strategies can be utilized with children or adults that are served in inclusive settings will be discussed as well as how to collaborate with families and other professionals to increase successful inclusion into natural settings.

The What, Where and Why of Social Skills

Course Description: During this 3-hour period together, we will traverse the road of understanding different components of social skills and what they consist of. Included would be a deeper look at different components of non-verbal skills and empathy as a critical skill to understand theory of mind, perspective taking and more. Finally, we will also engage in strategies considering becoming an effective social problem-solver. The attendee will feel supported and equipped to enhance social-emotional thinking in their skill set as therapists and educators.

The workshop will seek to empower youth, parents, educators, administrators and health care professionals and others with actionable information to make a difference on this issue. There will be a particular focus on the linkages between exposure to nicotine and brain development and behavioral health challenges. The role of the Vaping Industry in creating and perpetuating this vaping epidemic will also be discussed.

The goal of this training is to help staff members recognize that self-care, mindfulness and other stress-management methods can be utilized as a critical tool to manage the stressors that appear throughout the workday. Another benefit to this training is that it is experiential, so participants will have the opportunity to practice these skills and to enjoy the benefits of them firsthand.

About this workshop:  The workshop will review terms central to understanding multicultural supervision, including multicultural and diversity competence, multicultural orientation, and cultural humility. The research conducted to date will be discussed with an emphasis on next steps for supervisors and supervisees alike. A model for addressing supervisors’, supervisees’, and clients’ multiple intersecting identities will be presented, and case examples will illustrate how the model can be applied.

CORA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for Psychologists. CORA Services maintains responsibility for the program and its content.
